Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) oil filter leaking

My friend has a 1997 EX Cab SLT W/ 5 SPD, They have had problems with the oil filter spraying oil out. I thought filter was not tight enough but my friend is a marine diesel mech,and I am sure he tightens the filter to the proper spec. How about warped filter head? Anyone run into that problem. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Seems sort of strange that it would warp after five years. Could it be that all or part of the old filter gasket is still on there?

Ilflem, Found out today that the type of filter he used was prone to cracking around the rim, according to his parts guy. He has since then switch to the Stratopore with no problems as of yet.
