Right. But all the other guages are operating. It takes a good 10 seconds before I start seeing oil pressure. Like when you do an oil change how it takes a little bit. Just mine is all the time.

It could be, though the guage works fine once it starts reading oil pressure. We have 5 or 6 24v 2500s at work and I noticied that they are a little slow to get oil pressure, though never long enough that the check guages light comes on.

Let me clarify what happens to mine. When I turn the key on, all of the dash lights illuminate. Once I start the truck, the "check gauges" light continues to stay illuminated for a couple of seconds, until the oil pressure gauge begins to register. Is this not normal?

curious

Mine does similar. It starts up the dash lights go off (except abs brake) then the ck guages comes on until oil press only when 1st started. time @ 2-4 seconds after start. thought it was normal.

Mine does the same thing. I leave the filter on until the oil has drained from the pan. When I remove the filter, it's only half full (Wix filter). I thought that was normal. Every time I start my truck, the "check gauges" light always comes on until the oil pressure gauge registers (2-3 seconds). I thought this was normal too???

My question is with all the bad comments about Wix Filters

why are you still using one?

To each, his own ... personally, I'm not one to get scared off by paranoia. Most of the horror stories are from hearsay and not from experience. I am sure there has been documented "history" of an oil filter causing problems, just like Fram, but that is what it is, "history. " Even Fram has diligently joined forces with Cummins to correct the problem they had with their filters, but they still get the short end of the stick for their "history. " I seriously doubt a manufacturer would lay themselves out by releasing a known problem into the marketplace. If you research the facts, you'd see that Wix filters, in most cases, exceed the manufacturers requirements. Look at the list of Cummins recommended filters and tell me which one is not affiliated with Cummins in some way ... business is business!

Why would Amsoil recommend Wix? From the Amsoil site: "Today WIX manufactures some of the best air, lube, cabin air, fuel crank case breather and transmission filtration products on the market. "

The only evidence (and I use that term loosely) I have been able to find regarding Wix failures is on Genosgarage.com. It is mentioned in TSB 09-004-01, under "notes", the following:

"Some filters have disintegrated resulting in severe engine damage. When this happens, you must seek compensation from the manufacturer of the filter (numerous reports of Fram failures have surfaced recently, and Wix filters damaged some 1st Gen engines back in the 90's). "

Personally, I have had nothing but success with Wix.

OK Guys, Just my two cents :D

I like to change my oil when it is hot not WARM. I have had my filter overflow when removing while still hot (plastic bags have worked for this trick, but it is rather hot and rips very easily). I have learned to first drain the pan and 5 minutes later remove the filter. Doing it this way the filter is down about 1 inch from the top, so keeping it as straight as possible when removing keeps the mess to a minimum. I always pre fill my filter with one quart prior to installing. This allows my oil pressure to come up with in 1-2 seconds after starting.

Pan under engine, pull the plug, take off air intake, spinoff the filter, install new Baldwin filter, replace air tube, replace pan plug, fill with oil start engine (always at idle) watch oil pressure come up takes at about 5 secs.

Always change oil hot. Takes me about 15 mins total.

Even with out oil change it takes time to fill the oil galaries in the engine so you alwyas have to expect some delay between engine start and oil pressure.

Cold takes longer than hot.

Oh Oh dont forget to take that darn oil pan out from underneath!!
