Hello, Picked up my 04 ctd 4x4 laramie from Missouri a couple weeks ago. Have been detailing it since. What a sweet ride, love that diesel power. I am chnging to fleetguard filter and royal purple synthetic. Took the old super tech filter off and there seems to be another rubber ring that was floating on top of the one that is in the groove of the filter. The ring seems to be a quarter inch bigger than the one on the filter. Have done many oil changes have never seen two rings. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for making this a great forum. Steve.

Welcome aboard!

I personally have never seen 2 rings... In fact, I always check before putting the new filter on to insure that the ring is on the filter that I just removed.

I recall the leak that would occur on engines when the ring were doubled up... It was back in a day on mid 80's Chevy Vans. I worked at a dealer back then, and on the first oil change after purchase the ring would stick on the block. It seems that the rubber from the factory was not lubricate and it woul inevitably stick/ stay when taking off the filter (sometimes we had to use an air chisle just to get the damn filter off!) It caused an awful mess when oil wuld blow through it if 2 rings were installed.

HAHA The extra seal had to be stuck there from previous filter. Got squashed outside of replacement filter seal. Usually they get doubled up ,one on top the other and then you got a bad leaker Oo.
