Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) oil filter question

I just got a Fleetguard LF3972 oil filter for my 2002 from Cummins. Here is my question. After I got home, just to cover myself, everything I see on the internet says that the LF3972 is for 03 and newer. Doesn't mention 2002.



Is this the right part number for my truck ?

It will work fine, several filter companies spec the same filter for 89+.

The guy at cummins said the 16035 was only for synthetic oil, the lf3972 is for dino oil. Is that not the case ?

The Fleetguards I use are 3894's. I got that part number off Geno's.

no the lf16035 uses synthetic material and filters better than the others. we run a fleet of dodges from 1989 to 2009's some of the older ones have near or over 1,000,000 on them using delo 15-40 and lf16035 since it's introduction
