Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Oil Filter Relocator

Are any of you guys running a relocator? I've changed the filter a few times now and it's a two person job for me. I NEED a relocator. Tell me what you've got and where from, prices, performance etc... Thank you.

Kyle, Are you talking oil filter or fuel filter? I can change the oil filter on my '96 in about three minutes flat. Just have to be careful you don't short out the alternator terminals with the wrench/ whatever you're putting on the filter. The #@$% fuel filter... that's another animal entirely. There are relocation kits for both. Geno's sells the Prime-Loc fuel filter relocation kit and City Diesel has a pretty slick oil filter relocation kit.

I believe there are other oil filter relocation kits - maybe Amsoil - but City Diesel's the first one that comes to mind.

I'm talking about the Oil filter. I can't get under it and spin it to put one on. I've got a/c and other stuff under the filter. The fuel filter is trash too but I can do it by myself. . I actually had the stem come out of the bracket on the fuel filter last time. Both it and the filter had turned almost to the end of the threads, twice the turning to release the filter. Could it be that i'm using a tall oil filter instead of a short one??

What oil filter are you using? LF3894 Stratapore, Microglass? They're all the same height. I know what you mean about it being a tight fit underneath the filter but I am able to slip a filter wrench on despite the minimal clearance. I use a Plews oil filter wrench - has a stainless compression band and an articulated handle so it's possible to have the handle at a right angle to the band, or wherever you need it to be in order to snake it in and down under the filter. Geno's sells a strap wrench for very little dinero. BTW, I change the filter from the top. I don't know - maybe your setup is different from mine, but I can pretty easily get the new filter - full of fresh oil - down in there and started on the threads without spilling a drop. For the most part I go by feel as it sure isn't easy to see - sort of hold it up in position with one hand and start turning with the other. If you didn't live 800 miles away I'd be happy to pop over and show you what I mean.

Have you tried taking the hose off between the turbo and the airbox? It gives you a little more elbow room to go in from the top. I just knock mine loose with a screwdriver and run the new one up hand tight ..... I personally wouldn't relocate it because then you have 2 more hoses and 4 more fittings to spring leaks and get in the way of some other bombs you might want

I would really like to know why you have such a problem with changing the oil filter. It is literally the easiest maintence to take care of on these trucks. Takes about 2 minutes to remove and 2 minutes to install.

Maybe I'll have to take some pictures. Getting the filter off is about a 60 second job. And yes the filter to turbo hose is out for this event. Putting the filter ON is a PITA. I've tried threading it on by the top, holding with one hand and spinning with the other. Either my hands aren't adequate or I don't have the technique down. It just isn't going to happen. My brother has tried it and i've had a friend try it. Either I find someone with an eating disorder/contorsionist or someone gets under the truck and holds the filter up. I'll try and get the numbers and man. for the filter but If this filter is oversized i'd rather relocate it and have the extra protection. It's no big deal really, with practice i'm sure i'll have it figured out but if I find a cheap, reliable solution i'd rather go that route.
