Okay guys... ... ... ..... I'm getting ready to do my 3rd oil change and the previous two times I removed the air hose that goes to the turbo to access the oil filter from the top.

Is the only way to do this? It is still all factory plumbing from the air filter to the turbo.

I like to remove the cylinder head, all parts attached to it, and then the oil cooler element to get at the oil filter:-laf... Or I guess I could do like you did:p.

Bill don't forget you like to break bolts off on reassembly. :-laf :-laf

I pull the air intake tube off. This gives me a chance to check the turbo for any wear on the shaft bushings. It will also show dirt if your air filter isn't sealing up properly.

Just think of pulling the tube off as PM (preventive maintenance) check. :D

Filter removal is performed after the majority of the oil is drained because it siphons about 1/3rd the oil out of the oil filter, thus I don't loose any oil from a full filter upon removal.

Same here. I like to let it drain for at least a few hours, if not overnight. Then there definately won't be any oil mess from filter removal.

Plus it's best to bring the truck up to operating temp before draining the oil. Usually drive around town running errands, then pull in the garage and immediately remove the drain plug. Be careful that oil can be hot. Prefill the new filter with oil prior to install.

For you tugboat

Thanks guys... ... ... ... ... was just trying to confirm that I was doing it the right way. One never knows. I was told there's no such thing as a stupid question, but sometimes I wonder!!!! :--)

The ziplock bag or the Wally world bag over the filter was one I never thought of though awesome tip... ... ... ... ... nary a drop of oil after the change.

Tugboat... here's another one for ya'... ... .....

Featherman,

Have you ever considered adopting a bald, overweight, American son??? I promise to only drive the car to the store... . Dad! :-laf :-laf

PB,

Those Ziploc bags cost $$$$! WallyWorld bags are FREE (except for the cost of the Chinese crap I bought). ;)

Not another one

Tug:

I've already got 4 boys(supposedly men) in line who have volunteered to make those runs to the store... ... ..... :{

They have to earn those store runs... ... ... ... ..... :D

Agree with the cost of those zip locs... ... ... ... I use them for storing new filters.
