I plan to install a Motorguard bypass filter on my '03 HO. Do the sandwich adapters such as Permacool provide both a high pressure and low pressure connection point suitable for this or do I need to plumb a return line to the valve cover or similar? Thanks in advance for the help!
 
The picture of the Motor Guard you might have seen on my web site is a Cummins 12 valve with a Perma-Cool universal 189 sandwich adapter. It belongs to the company I work for. It had to have the internal part machined to fit the Cummins. The full flow filter will be a 3/4-16 thread like a Ford Motor Craft Fl-1a or Fram PH-8A. I used the stock filter on the Industrial engine but the trucks dont have room for the stock filter and the additional length of the adapter I like to use the sandwich adapters because they make the little filters work even better because they take the stress off the element. I also drill the adapter 7/32". The Perma-Cool adapters provide both a pressure and return for the Motor Guard. To use a sandwich adapter you need a filter that can take full oil pressure at both the inlet and out let of the filter. The orifice isnt needed with the sandwich adapter because the sandwich adapter doesnt take oil pressure off the system. All of the oil goes thru the full flow filter but some is cleaned first. When using a submicronic bypass filter all the full flow filter needs to do is grab the big abrasives. All you need to look for in a full flow filter is quality and strength. The Cummins has the relief valve in the engine. I have the modified adapter. If anyone knows of any two port sandwich adapters let me know. I get them from www.jegs.com and add the center piece.
