I read the artical too on the oil filters i can't find a WIX filter less than $18. 99 at O'Reilly's.

I found a site called Filtermax.com they have the Donaldson synthetic for $14. 08 part number ELF7349 it's called the endurance line, black very flash. number is 845 765-1315.

the Fleetguard is also Synthetic FL16035 $12. 95 which is a great deal at GENO'S.

How can one tell which one is better.

The WIX are NASCAR approved if that means something.
 
As for filters I kinda looked at the Amsoil EaO80 once but shied away from it due to the flow holes being quite a bit smaller than the Stratapore. To me hole size and number matters since the B-series oil pump flow is spec'd at 20 gallons/minute. . . towing under hot conditions I wouldn't want a restrictive filter in place.



I didn't get a warm & fuzzy feeling about the feed holes on the EaO80 either.

Here is a thought. . The media probably poses a greater restriction than the entrance holes. The nanofiber media in the Amsoil/Donaldson is supposed to outflow filters with much higher micron ratings, so with less media restriction there isn't the need for as much volume thru the lid.



I do know that the Amsoil/Donaldson flows enough oil to be able to hit 85 psi on the driver side of the block when cold, which is 10 psi above the bypass spring in the oil pump. That tells me there is no issue with flow.

Very well said! The size of the inlet holes on the filter base isn't an issue with the type of filtering media used in the Amsoil/Donaldson elements, just as you stated!
 
Donaldson ELF7349 @ Capitoland Filter for $11. 73. Bought 6. That was $14. 86 each w/shipping. New York to Washington. Running this filter with Delo Synthetic 5w-40.

Where Did I go wrong....

AH64ID, I put on my sheet I had 16,770 miles on the lube oil. 3 Q sump capacity? Whats "Oxidation"? I emailed them the info they said was missing and asked for a revision. TBN a little low.

Oxidation is the most important form of chemical breakdown of motor oil and its additives. The chemicals in motor oil are continuously reacting with oxygen inside your engine. The effects of oxidation, due to this reaction, as well as the by-products of combustion, produce very acidic compounds inside an engine.

The various acidic compounds cause corrosion of internal engine components, deposits, changes in oil viscosity, varnish, sludge and other insoluble oxidation products that can cause a performance and durability degradation of your engine over a period of time due to oil breakdown. The products of oxidation are less stable than the original base hydrocarbon molecular structure and, as they continue to be attacked by these acidic compounds, can produce varnish and sludge.



(TBN) Total Base Number represents the reserve alkalinity of the oil to reduce acidic material. Generally speaking, when the TBN goes down to 1/2 of the original TBN number, I like to change out the oil.

The oil I use starts out with a TBN of 12 plus, so when my UOA shows approximately 6 TBN, I change it.



As to the 3 Q sump capacity, I think Oil Analyzers uses "Gallons" as capacity, so the 3 would indicate 3 gallons.

"Oxidation" was never on the report before. The missing information in red at top is: ISB5. 9L
