Which fleetguard filter is the proper one to be using on the 12v's?

Statapore, microglass? What the difference? Is one for 24v and the other 12v or what?

I believe Fleetguard has 2 filters for the 12V.

I use the Microglas, Fltg. # LF3552. $8. 95 at Geno's. I buy 'em by the half-dozen. Geno's also lists LF3349, for $4. 95 as the Standard filter for 12V's.

Years ago at my local Napa store I saw a Fram oil filter and a Napa oil filter cut open so that you could see the way each was constructed. The Fram was a piece of you-know-what. Oil could easily go right around the (thin) filter element and not even get filtered. The Napa one was built much more strongly. NEVER use a Fram in your Cummins. Fram uses silicone sealant inside the filter, and the silicone apparently will break loose and circulate in the engine and block up the piston lube/cooling nozzles resulting in PAIN & $$$$.

rrausch is correct.

But you can use the 24v filter on a 12v no problem, but not the other way around. I use the 24v Stratapore filter, LF3894, on my 12.

Stratapore is supposedly Fleetguards best filtration media, but I would guess the filtering abilities to be very close to that of the Microglass. They do not make a Stratapore filter specifically designed for the 12v, and as I said before the 24v filter will work with no ill effects (and this was confirmed by Fleetguard).

It seems to me they would just eliminate the 12v filters and use what are know as the 24v filters now, for both the 12v and 24. It sure would simplify inventory and the MFG process.
