I just bought 2 (two) Fram PH3976 oil filters for $13. 74 for my truck. :D The steelers wants $15. 20 plus tax for 1 (one) part number 05016547-AC. :( What is the difference other than the price. Is Fram a good filter for these CTD engine's?

Rick.

There apparently was a service bulletin regarding Fram's use of neoprene in the filter, which could come loose and plug the cooling jets. However, I was just over at Fram's website trying to cross-reference a number and found this:

So that may no longer be an issue. But, I still don't like Fram because of the design of their anti-drainback valves. Cardboard is fine for the box, but doesn't belong inside.

I picked up a couple Fleetguard LF3959 from the local Kenworth dealer for around $6. 00 each. Might be worth checking someplace like that - maybe even a truckstop - to see what they have.

Find a local Cummins dealer that carries Fleetgaurd. Search some posts on Fram oil filters and you'll learn why most folks here won't use them. Another thing is I buy Fleetgaurd for mine for under $6 each at the local International dealer. That's less than you paid for the questionable Frams. To me, oil filters aren't something to take chances with. Good luck.

I woulnd't put a Fram om my truck if the gave 'em to me! Fleetguard only for me. I pay less than 8$ to my door for Statapores, I ain't going to risk a 5000$ motor over a few bucks.

Fram is NOT on DC "approved" list, something goes wrong you'll have to take it up with Fram.

I pay $5 for the regular Fleetguard and $8. 50 for the statapore at local Cummins, Cat and International shops. My 2 cents.

Rick 2nd building on rhs of 96th ave past 200th on way to Piers shop you will find Cumminc dealer, or go down and see Piers I noticed he had filters and oil as a package deal. :) bill

Just a piece of trivia: Cummins started a filter manufacturing plant in Dec of 1957, because no one else could make filters of a consistent quality. To make a long story short that manufacturing plant turned into Fleetguard. I don't think anyone could match the quality of those filters.
