I am on a long trip in my '96 Dodge with a Cummins 12-valve engine. I will need to have my oil changed while I am away from home. I usually use Valvoline Premium Blue, but have not been able to find it while I'm on the road. Is there another comparable oil that I can use? I have heard that Walmart has an oil that would be good, but I can't remember which one it is. I have brought my own Fleet Guard oil filters with me in anticipation of having my oil changed, but I need to know what oil would be a good substitute for the Premium Blue. I am pulling my 12,000 trailer from coast to coast and want to make sure I am using good oil in the truck.

Here's a link to Valvoline Oil Change centers. They should be available about anywhere and should have Premium Blue oil.

Cummins dealers should have the Premium Blue also.

If you go with another oil, I use Shell Rotella 15w40 with no problems and could recommend it. It is available at WalMart and any truck stop. Mobil Delvac and Chevron Delo are probably fine too, but I have no experience with them.

Have a safe trip and enjoy.

I have used mobil delovac, shell rotella, and Walmart's 'supertech' house brand oil (reportedly made by valvoline??). Not saying oil is oil but I focus alot more on filters: never off-brand, always Mopar (usu at walmart too!), Fleetgard.

My 96 gets Rotella synthetic changed every 10,000 miles. Filter changed at 5,000 miles. Oil report says Rotella still good.
