I have a 99 one ton. Today The little bell tones went off. Show no oil pressure. The Alternato  r showed about a6 volts. I pulled over, checked the oil,It was ok. Cranked up the oil went up to about 80 lbs for about ten sec. then went back down. The alternator was up to about 14 volts. I smelled a sligh odor of oil for a few days pyor to this. Any Ideas.

The same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago. Oil gauge went nuts and the voltage gauge was acting up to. The voltage gauge is fine now, but I had to replace the sending unit to fix the oil gauge. It's an easy fix and the part cost me $79 from Cummins. The sender is under the ECM. To change use a 1 1/4" deep socket. Mine is an 01 so it may be a little different. I knelt on the radiotor support with one hand on the vavle cover. Then you can reach down past the fuel filter and get at the sending unit. Takes longer to round up the tools than to make the change.

Thanks for the information. With the rain that we have had, I should be able to check it out by Sat. Thanks again.
