Ok, I've had an amsoil bypass system on my truck for the past 2 years. Every winter when I go to start the truck in the morning, the engine oil guage will drop to 0 for about 10-15 seconds and then go back up. This never happened before I put the bypass system on. Why does it do this? The truck runs great and I've had no problems, so should I not worry? What do you guys think

i dont know anything about the amsoil bypass sys but you could try giving the amsoil tech support a call 715-392-7101 sorry cant be of more help

Is it the older style Amsoil that relocates the primary filter next to the bypass? If so this was pretty common. Some trucks would have this issue while others wouldn't. it was hit or miss.

The cluster gauge is a dummy gauge. I wouldn't worry if it doesn't register immediately. There is probably pressure in the system just not enough to show as fast the ECU thinks it should.

If you use good oil and change it frequently enough there should be no problem with it protecting the wear surfaces for a short time on startup.

Wondering what CBrabrec's symptoms are... . but I can hear the pressure come on and quiet the engine down.

I had considered adding some type of MOA but not sure the affects of that stuff on the rest of the system long term.

I have the same issues using the BD remote kit and an FS2500. I am also concerned with damage to the engine due to low oil pressure.

I have (currently) a Baldwin B50 bypass that flows a lot of oil even cold... but I also have the fullflow filter on the factory mount. I have never seen my light illuminate. And although it was a GCF (and an Amsoil setup prior to that); I have been running a bypass for well over 100k.

I have read that there is a slight increase in time in getting oil pressure because of remote mounts, and that is just long enough to cause the ECM to trigger an alarm. This is a common (from what I have read) with the dual remote Amsoil filter kits (the kits that include a bypass and fullflow). From what I also remember reading is they recommend using a stand alone bypass while leaving the OE fullflow filter on the 3rd gen trucks.

Hope that helps.

That's the one I have. When I have sent in my oil samples they come back great, and when I had the head resurfaced and "o ringed" and cylinder walls looked brand new, even with 80K on the motor. You could still see the cross marks, so I guess amsoil is doing its job.
