I just installed my new 5" MBRP turbo back exhaust, I can smell what seems to be oil burning. At first I thought it was because of the small amount of lithium grease I used on the muffler joints. I just now returned from the state line(about 45 miles) and after stopping at the mail box and then continuing up my driveway, I was blowing little puffs of blue smoke.

I parked at the house and shut it down, my exhaust tip was wet with oil on the inside, it does not smell like fuel it is definitely oil. My oil level is normal and my oil does not smell like fuel. I looked into my tail pipe with a flashlight and it is only wet to the first bend and then appears to be dry. I inspected my old system and it is dry.

Is this normal for a MBRP system when new? Or do I have bigger problems, turbo seals leaking?, broken ring? The truck only has 11,000 miles on it and the SPS62 has about 1000 miles since installation. Any input, I am really concerned here.

It does not puff blue continuously, I just noticed it after stopping that one time and then when I restarted it it blew out a small puff.

Thank You for any ideas!

Thank You, I believe at this point since performance seems the same, that is exactly what I will watch.

Give it a couple hundred miles. It could be the residue left over from the mandrel bending.

But, it could be seals on the turbo of a failing injector.

SO, watch the oil. If it rises, look at the injectors. If it falls look at the turbo.

I'm going to vote for either the coating or the turbo.

I just got back from another drive, just sitting and idling, no blue smoke, rev in neutral, no blue smoke, idle at a stop light for thirty seconds, pull away and I leave a stream of blue smoke, everytime. Also pulling a hill at 10 to 15mph a steady stream of blue puffs.

My tailpipe is once again coated with oil on the inside. I wiped it clean with a clean rag, there is absolutely no diesel odor that I can detect. This seems like way more oil than which would be produced by residue, but at the same time I did not notice it until I put the new system on, and also the old system had no oil inside of it.

Would a leaking or cracked injector cause it to produce blue smoke? It would seem to me that it would not, if it can, could someone explain how?

If it is a turbo seal, how would I check it short of removing it to look for oil? As I stated earlier I only have about 1000 miles since installing the turbo, and with the reputation of the SPS62, I cannot fathom it being the culprit. The oil level is still normal, and I will continue to monitor closely.

Thanks for the input, and anything else anybody would like to add or suggest, I would be truly thankful for. This really does freak me out. Jess

Check your return line and make sure it's not clogged and crank your truck while it's off and make sure oil is flowing through.

Thanks WCounts, I went out to do just that! I did not need remove the return line, the turbo is leaking oil!

The turbo return line is all wet with oil and the turbo is leaking between the turbine wheel housing and the exhaust flange. I cannot hardly believe it, as I stated earlier the turbo has only 1000 miles on it at most!

I guess I will be talking to Industrial Injection in the morning, and will get to see first hand about their customer service. They were very helpful when I purchased it, and it seems almost everyone here believes in them. It took me 6 hrs. to install the first one, what a b?%&ch. :( :(
