oil in fuel?

I went to start up the truck this afternoon, and she did a rapid fire but would not turn over. This was not the first start of the day. I ended up checking the water in fuel purge and what came out was what looked and smelt like oil. I am new to the Diesel and first gens, so I was hoping for a little help. (headgasket?)



History - I take good care of her. I change the oil after every 3 to 4000 miles and have changed the fuel filter twice in the last year. I was running bio for about three tanks, then stopped and have since run about 10 tanks of #2 through the engine. I changed the fuel filter after running the bio and it was clean. I have recently started towing our boat to the harbor and back, and drive her real easy. I know this may be overkill on info but oh well. thanks in advance.

Changed the fuel filter, and there was a lot of gunk in there. More so than after I ran the bio. Still wont turn over. Probably something basic I just dont know about. Getting her towed tomorrow morning.

I dont really see how you can get oil in the fuel- there is no real good place for them to come in contact and mix.



One possibility is critters (algae, etc) getting in your fuel.



And from now on, hammer the pedal now and then. The fuel systems are like our bodies- if they dont get worked now and then, stuff builds up and gunks things up and bad things happen. These engines were designed for 300HP constant load marine operation, so it's hard to hurt them in a 160hp automotive application (though I know people who could get it done). Just let it get warmed up before getting on it hard.

Well after changing the filter, I doubt there was oil in the fuel. Pre-mature diagnosis on my part. After some research this morning I am thinking it might be the fuel injector solenoid, as the reason it is not starting? Hopefully not something bigger.



As far as hammering the pedal down every once and a while. How could I not. Especially when there is a yuppie couple tailgaiting me in a convertable . There is a stretch of frontage road that I usually open her up for a bit.

figured it out, fuel shut off switch, and a bad connection. Got air from cranking it over and over I guess.
