Oil in Intercooler

I was having my gauges put in at Colorado Diesel and they gave me the bad news that my intercooler is coated with engine oil. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem or heard of it before. They said it could be caused by a blown seal in the turbo. I am now a nervous wreck because I have to take it to Dodge. It only has 16K and has never pulled ANYTHING so their should be no doubt that it is covered under warranty, I'm just very concerned. Any input would be appreciated. Do any of you Colorado Guys know how Chistophers Dodge World is about looking for anything to void a warranty.

Depending on the quantity of oil involved, you might want to be pretty cautious about driving it until you can get it fixed. Could get into a runaway situation and blow your engine if the oil starts getting sucked into intake and combusted.

JMAN ~ If i read right you had a K & N and now use Fleetguard? If so is is possible oil is from and over oil of K & N left over from when you was using it? Just a thought

The mechanic said it was engine oil. He said it was like sticking your finger in a quart of oil that is how thick it was. I only had the K & N in for about 8K and never reoiled it. I checked my oil on Christmas Eve before we drove it and it was right on the full mark so I wonder if it just happened recently. I'm going to go check it again today and see if it is below the full mark.



I'm going to call Cummins Rocky Mountain on Monday if they are open and see what their recomendations are before I take it to Dodge. I was told to request the Intercooler be taken off and boiled out to make sure it is perfectly clean and I doubt Dodge will do this without me being very insistant. We'll see what Cummins says so I have the solution from the horses mouth!

The piston seals are leaking in the compressor side of the shaft. Not a very common problem. The turbo will have to be removed and repaired as well as removing the intercooler to get all traces of oil out of it. Dodge should be able to deal with it.
