Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Oil in Radiator

We have a 95 Dodge 1ton truck at work with 250,000 miles on it, and the guy that drives the truck was checking fluids this morning and noticed the Reservoir was full of oil and then took off the radiator cap and noticed the the antifreeze had quite a bit of oil in it. Any help would be appreciated

Engine oil I assume? Could be a Head gasket, or a cracked lube oil cooler. my experience says that headgaskets are usually responsible for "Small" amounts of lube getting into the cooling system. If you crack an oil cooler, they can put a oil in the radiator in a hurry. Also, It is easier to pull the oil cooler than it is to pull the head... ... also be aware that either of these failures will allow a certain amount of coolant into the oil pan as well, it is just not as noticable. P.

I would deffinatly check the head gasket out. It would be benefical to change the oil and see if you have had coolant making it into oil system.

Before you pull the oil cooler assembly--get the gaskets for it. I didn't and it leaks a bit now.



Take the cooler to a radiator shop or pressure test it yourself. There's info around here somewhere.



Everybody hopes it's the oil cooler, but it's usually the head gasket. :{



Ours got that way from over-advanced timing done by previous owner. I put the timing back where I wanted it and did fire-rings and studs and injectors and turbo and ATS manifold while I was getting my fingers dirty.

It does tend to go that way, but I have seen a couple of broken lube coolers. P.

When my truck blew a head gasket at 196k, it dumped a massive amount of oil into the cooling system.

My bet is your truck blew a head gasket.

i had the same problem started with a new oil cooler then found out it was the head gasket but by the time i did it i had lost a liter of oil into the rad and it over flowed and blew the cap off it took me about 15 times of flushing the rad to finally get all the oil out its was a messey and terable job. i have pics of my old gasket. .
