I was checking the end play on my turbo today and found alittle oil on the air intake side of the turbo when I removed the hose. Is this something to be worried about? I removed the silencer ring about 10,000mi ago and don't remember seeing any oil in there so this must be a new problem. Maybe I'm just nervous because I'm going to turn over 100,000 in a coulpe of weeks and I'm still on my first vp-44. Thanks in advance for the help.

Oil getting in the intake is a reason why alot of people will not run a K&N cleaner. Others swear by the K&N, and say it is due to "over-oiling" so its all personal opinion.

That is probably all your oil is, and I wouldnt be alarmed by it.

I had the same situation, when I ran a K&N. Even though it was oiled from the factory, upon checking the blades, they were covered w/ oil & grit. Immediately got a paper filter, cleaned the blades w/ q-tips & brake cleaner, and havent had oil on them since.

In reference to your other post about warantee being almost up. It sounds like you have been fortunate, you got a good truck. Also, have probably treated it well.

Just make sure you have a fuel pressure gauge, and another lift pump handy, as yours will be coming due sometime. In fact lift pumps fail like belts & hoses, so you might want to upgrade to a better pump now, and keep the stock one in place as a backup in the field. Or replace it now in a comfortable setting, vs having to do it in the field.

I upgraded pumps before mine failed, so that it is still available in case the upgraded one quits.

Mine is doing the same thing. I have dealt with K&N's for years and love 'em, but they don't seem to be up to the task on our trucks! Mine was oiled properly from K&N, and within 3 months it looked bone dry and I had oil in my turbo. As soon as I have some extra cash I am ordering an AFE Progaurd filter element and building my own airbox out of 5053 or 6061 aluminum. In the mean time, I'm keeping the filter oiled.

Mine was black also. Had me thinking it was a leaking seal. It was not, and alot of others have been through the same situation.

You could have a seal going bad, but I doubt it. This issue has come up alot of times.

I would try cleaning the blades, and putting the stock cleaner back on. Either way, if it does have a leak, you probably want to take it back in with the OEM intake for warranty purposes.

My bet is its the K&N.

That is exactly what i was gonna say!

The turbo is creating a vacuum on the oil seals and its sucking oil past them. I just had the same thing happen to a customers truck and when I checked the connection to the intercooler I found oil. If you inspect the elbow going to the intercooler and find oil... my vote would be the seals. .

This kind of oil seapage is a sign of the seals in the cartidge getting worn.
