Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) oil leak after kdp fix

First, I'm a new member and I think this is a great site. I learned about the killer dowel pin and thought I better take care of this. I used the tst kit to fix this. Now I have an oil leak. I think it is coming from the crank seal. I cleaned everything good and installed according to the instructions, but I have the oil leak. I think it is around the teflon seal and crank. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Joe.

Did you use the plastic liner on the seal when sliding the seal over the crank? If you didnt, then you more than likely transhed the crank seal.



I have a leak that I have been fighting since I tabbed the KDP. I replaced the seal, installed a new gasket for the cover, and it still leaks. I discovered the leak is coming from the gear housing where it meets the engine block right under the injector pump. Yours might be leaking from the same spot since two bolts from the front cover hold the gear housing at this point. What I did was hit the area with brake cleaner to get all the oil off, then I applied adhesive silicone to the area where the housing meets the block in this area. I just drove got back from a 1400 mile road trip, and it appears to be doing a good job at stoping the leak. You cant replace the gasket for the gear housing without taking a good part of the engine and truck apart, so you have to dam it up somehow if it is leaking from this area.

JConley, not that it means much but that's the same way dealers fix a leak from the case/engine area. I've known a couple guys have it done that way, under warranty, not the best but seems to work. Both trucks have over five years with no leaks.

Did you clean all the oil off the shaft before installig the seal?

It should be put on dry.

J Conley, thanks for the reply. Yes I used the seal starter. Everything went together very well. I used brake parts cleaner to clean everything off before installing, especially the cranks surface. I was'nt sure how to put on the dust cover that came with the seal kit. I will try to look at the place you mentioned for signs of leaking, thanks for the idea.
