I have a 2001 quad cab 4wd which just began leaking engine oil. My friendly Dodge dealer says that without the extended warranty (and with 83000 miles) Chrysler is not responsible for stopping the oil leak and that the Cummins warranty will not even consider it because the leak is at an accessory point (not the motor, but the shaft that comes from the motor). Has anyone else encountered this or seen this fixed without spending $2500 (parts and labor) for a replacement vacuum pump ( since there is no rebuild/ reseal kit, the only option is pump replacement)?

Some guys have had it covered under the engine warranty and some not. Mine says no. It's funny, but the lift pump was covered under the engine warranty. Seems to me like the same principle applies.

There is a seal kit - $7. 50 from Cummins. There's a good thread with instructions I just saw on here. I'll be doing it one of these days too when I get the time. It's well worth the work to save that much cash.

Here's the link to that thread:
