Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) oil leak

I have an oil leak that started after doing a valve adjustment and 3K GSK. Looks like it is only leaking after I shut the truck off and is coming from 2 spots. One leak/drip is a tube (blow by tube?) from under the truck. I haven't checked yet for the second spot. But every morning when I come out there are 2 spots under the truck about 2-3" across.



I have checked while the truck is idling and have not seen any drips. Also there is no oil blown under the bottom of the truck. No smoke while starting or driving



Any ideas on what the problem is?

The most likely thing is valve cover gaskets, especially #5 and #6.

I wondered about that. I didnt put in new ones as I did the adjustment on a Sunday and the dealer was closed. Didnt think to check the auto parts store. I check when I get home tonight.

i wish i had only one oil leak. I've changed gasket and seals, this and that and still get a few drips. If you got it down to one, I'd say you're doing good *thumbs up*

Make sure the rear valve covers gaskets got seated properly, it can be a pain to keep them on the cover while installing back there and hard to see if they are right without a mirror.

Yeah sometimes they get pinched over, makes a decent leak and runs down the block onto the ground.

When I was poking around messing with the injector lines on monday, I noticed my #6 valve cover gasket was a little weepy. My local parts place dosent stock them, but can get them in a few hrs. if I call ahead and there around $4. 75 ea. Thats the FelPro brand and comes with a new washer for the stud.

Didnt get a chance to check it out last night but I am off tomorrow so I'll take a look. Local parts place has them in stock so I should be good there.

Thanks for the suggestion, it looks like it might have fixed it. Took her out for a quick spin and no drips so far. I check again in the morning, if not I am back to drip free.



I also ended up with a washed and waxed truck. :-laf

my #6 valve cover nut was loose, tightened it down and the oil stopped, so i feel fortunate... . good luck with the drip
