Archived oil leak?

A lot of oil coming from the vent tube below the starter, on my 97 cummins. Anyone know why I might have this come on rather suddenly???

Need more specifics. Is it Stock? How many miles? How hard is it run? Etc etc.

Use a flashlight and check real good on your tappet cover.

Just about every thing that commonly leaks is on the left side of the engine. Air then blows the oil everywhere. Have you pinpointed the vent tube as the source?

# 11 fuel plate, otherwise stock 378K normal weight with the flatbed is 8k, 250 mile commute thru the mountains, every week.

It appears to be somewhere behind the fuel filter, and involves the blowby tube

Glad you like it! It would be interesting if the op let us know what he found. I suggest a power wash, then run the engine, look for leak.

I had a leak on the right side, I had run an over head on the valves and one of the covers did not seal. so I change the leaky ones with ones closer to the front and it went away. It dripped down the side and because of the ledges etc the oil followed the conture to the bottom of the bell housing.

injector pump was leaking badly, as well as the tappet cover was warped. thanks for the input!
