oil leak

Need help... oil leaking driver side around power steering pump. Looks like oil, not power steering fluid, and I can't see where the oil is coming from. It is running down onto the front pumpkin. 2000 CTD 4X4, any help?

looking closer today showed me that it is the vacuum pump that is leaking. I called the stealer and he tells me it is non servicable and a new pump is $1,025. 00 and it is not covered under the 5year 100,000 mile warranty ... ... . can any one tell if this is true?????? The truck is a 2000 with 44,000 miles I thought for sure it would be... . My first Dodge... ...

Leak

Common problem. Seal and o ring can be replaced for less than 35 bucks if you take it apart yourself. Factory manual shows how to take it apart but does not reference seal and o-ring replacement. You cannot get the seal and o-ring from the dealer so don't waste your time. Order from a bearing and seal company or a machine shop.

My dealer replaced the whole pump unit on mind due to the oil leak. They did it almost exactly one year and 30,000 miles after I bought the truck.



I didn't pay a dime.

Dumb question? What is the vacuum pump and why would it not be covered by the 5 year 100,000 mile warranty?

If you cannot find the seals locally, I keep them on hand. I have to special order them 25 at a time. PM me and I can mail a set.
