Took my truck in a few weeks ago for an oil change. When I picked it up, I noted they had replaced the plug and seal. I also noticed they had filled it with 12 quarts of oil rather than the 11 it usually takes. They checked it out and said it was ok. When I got my truck home, I started noticing a small spot of oil in the driveway every morning. First leak I've ever had! I took it back and they put in another plug. When I got home, I found that the leak had gotten worse, rather than better. I'm scheduled to take it back tomorrow, but I don't have a lot of confidence they'll figure out the problem, so thought I'd ask you guys for some tips I can pass on to my dealer. Do you think the fact they overfilled with oil the first time has any relationship to my problem? Thanks for your help.

Could be that the excess oil ended up in the breather bottle on the front of the engine. Where is it dripping from?

Are you sure it's not running down the side of the engine, and dripping off the bottom? If not, they may have stripped the drain plug. You might want to get under there with a 3/8" ratchet to see how snug it is, but be prepared for a flood if it is stripped!

cracked pan?

I had one of those drips that just kept getting worse and they finally gave up and replaced the pan. Problem solved. I thing it was cracked at the drain plug location. If this is the problem, you want it to be covered on warranty. Big Job.

I think I remember reading that over tightening the drain plug can deform the oil pan, either the sealing surface or the threads, in any case it'll leak.

The oil change monkey installed a leak for you, I'd find another dealership, especially if you get them to replace the pan.

If they can't change the oil right do you really want them dropping your transmission and changing the oil pan?

Took my truck back today. They determined that the oil pan was not cracked. They ended up putting two gaskets on the plug and it appears to have stopped the leak. I'll be watching it. Not sure why two seems to work. Wonder if maybe they warped the tank by tighning the plug to much??

Hope this is the end of it. I can live with a small leak, but not big ones.
