After getting home from a 400 mile trip empty i noticed oil dripped from the front of the truck. i could not see where it was leaking the dealer says there is a canister on the front of the engine that needs to be cleaned every oil change. does any one out there know where i can find this on my truck is a 98. 5 24 valve. on my friends 99 you can clearly see the breather tube but not on mine. also if thats not it any ideas what it could be. thanks

Hey I too heard of this canister, when under my truck the other day I spotted it and finally knew what I was looking at! You would be wise to have a light under there with ya. It is directly in the front of the engine, in the middle but closer to the drivers side it is black like everything else under there so it doesnt just jump out at you. It is about the size of like a Rolaids bottle (or thereabouts) Good luck. I saw somwhere that Genos Garage carries a breathable canister for this but couldnt find it on there web site. Will have to call Andy and ask him. Im thinking of this set up for my truck!

I'm not an expert, but I thought they didn't put the canister on the 98. 5... maybe that's why you're having trouble finding it and the tube.

On the y2k the tube comes out of the top of a black hockey-puck sized chunk o' plastic on the front of the engine (towards driver's side), the tube then goes around the puck and about 2/3 of the way down the engine where the canister is held on. Canister is plastic (or similar mat'l) ~6 or 7 inches tall, 2 inch diameter with holes in the side about 4 inches up so it can't fill full. They do need to be emptied on occasion. Unfortunately oil from the front of the engine could also be the vacuum pump seal leaking... I hope you luck out and find the stealer was right.

I don't think they started putting them on until 2000. I would say it was just blowby because of the long trip you just completed. Maybe you had to much oil in the truck and it blow some out. Wash off the front of your engine check the oil every fuel stop and keep an eye on it.
