Hello.
I have a 3500 1977 4x4 automatic Dodge Ram.
It has some oil leak on the engine.
This weekend a shall wash the engine in try to find the source of the leakage.
Were is the most common places to check?
It is oil on the bottom of the oil pan, so i think its the pan gasket, but maybe from other places also.

I have seen alot of threads about replacing the oil pan, and it seems like its possible to do without take the engine out.
Is there someone here that have done it?
Did you left the transmission attached to the engine? The T-case? The cross member under the transmission?

The vacuum pump seal is known to leak pretty good. Thats on the drivers side. Pretty easy to rebuild those not sure how hard parts are to get.

Front case cover and front seal behind the damper could leak.

A cracked front case would leak really bad.

My oil pan leaks pretty bad, its a new pan the previous owner put on with just some sort of really bad silicone, its on my short list to do, I have a engine hoist I'm going to use when I have the trans out.

Rocker covers could but you would be able to see those I would think.

Sounds like you have a good plan to degrease and then keep an eye out.
 
Don't forget to check the oil pressure sender. My '95 started spewing a quart in 50 miles, when it was 20 year old. Was difficult to see when stopped and there was oil everywhere.

I have a leakage from the coupling between the pipes and the hose, in the transmission cooling circuit. The last distance to the cooler in the front is hose. Will it be leakage free with new hoses, or is it a known problem?

Typically what I personally found is the new lines and hoses never click together properly, so I cut my quick connects off and just used 2 hose clamps, the smooth kind that dont eat into the hose.

The barb on the hard line acts like a decent retainer where it wont slide off.

Those hard lines also could physically be damaged by wearing against each other, some of us have used rubber hose around the hard lines where they are close to each other.

I tried brand new lines and found my one original line was better then the brand new one so I have a mix of new hoses some old and new hard lines.

I also broke the one fitting in the transmission off one time, and had to fab a quick fix.

So yeah they are all sorts of fun. But I will say once I got them all set no more leaks from there anyway.
