engine oil

Use the synthetic's. I use Mobil 1 5w-40. Flows faster at startup and in the winter and takes the heat better in the summer. Switch to syn's for all your oils. Works for me. :D

Valvoline Premium Blue in the summer, then 5w40 Amsoil synthetic in the winter. I only drive about 5-7k in the summer and about 10-12k in the winter. No towing in the summer, just use it to drive around. Winter time I tow a lot. But it comes down to what makes you feel good. There is no right answer that works for everyone.

Amsoil Series 3000 5W-30. Yes Cummins says to use 15W-40 but after a few oil analisis's the wear metals were much lower w/ the ligher oil. Just had the oil analized @ 17,380 miles (I changed it but didn't tell them) the oil was OK for continued use. I run a bypass and use LF 3849 filters.

I don't tow.

In all honesty, at 3000 miles, any oil, as long as it's not bargain basement brand (walmart), should work (given it's compatable with a diesel----CI or CJ). It's when you start getting into extended drain intervals that will heat up the keypads all over the country. At 3000 miles, though, Rotella is as good as any.

I run Valvoline 15-40 PBC And was told that I could go at leas 2000 more miles. I had it changed at 6788 miles sent sample to Blackstone Lab. So that will let me go to 9. 788 miles so I will change it at 10. 000 then send a sample to them for a check on every thing also TBM.

Well before i painted my garage, I used Shell Rotella T15w40. But the new trim color clashed with the white plastic bottle so I shifted to Dello 400 15w40, because the blue bottle it looked better sitting on the shelf!! The Dello bottle also has less crap to read on the bottle and the handle is faster on the pour.

I change it about every 220 hours or 6500-7000 miles.

I bought Dello today at Wally World for $10. 50 a gallon. Rotella was $11. 00.

I also use Fleetguard filters from Genos, cause they have great service.

As a by the by, I also change my fuel filter every time I change my oil cause the filter is only 14. 00 from Genos, takes ten minutes and I sleep better at night knowing that I probably just helped out my fuel injection pump cause who knows what or what not is in diesel, now a days. I am going to mix a quart of Bio (b-100) with every thank full of fuel, to further help out that injection pump.

That's what i do. That's what I will continue to do. Do what you feel is right. We will never agree!!

Rock on

if i had my way, i would run syn in everything i own. but with so much equipment and all the trucks, no way i could afford it. with the oil article posted not to long ago, i would say with book recommended changes, just about any quality oil would do. i went from useing 4 different brands to 3. delo, shell rotella, shell rotella syn, and tractor supply's traveller brand. incidently the traveller brand is still ci rated, which is said to be better for engines with solid lifters. i have used it for atleast 12 years in my equipment , and will continue to use it. delo and both shell's, i use in my dump trucks and pickups. although i have phased out the rotella dino oils, and replaced them with the traveller brand. clear as mud? anyway, i have spent quite a few hrs in a engine rebuild shop, and i have seen first hand what high mileage engines look like run on both delo and shell oils, as well as mobil delvac. a year ago i wouldnt be ashamed to run any of those brands. with these newer cj rateings, i have my doubts , and simply would keep closely within the change intervals set by the owners guide. with my winter oil changes fast approaching, i will likely drop the shell synthetics[now cj rated], and replace them with amsoil syn's.

oil

The way oil is I think it all about the same,I use Delo because you can find it ANYWHERE in the the US. One post on the same topic still makes me laugh. He used the blue bottle because it went better with the color of his shop. Now that is funny. Just change it when you need to .

Hello

I have been using LE 8800 for nine years. Change oil @ 18,000 miles with TBN still at 10.

Have 270,500 miles on engine, with no problems to date.

Good luck,

JL

Oil Preference

I understand that oil types for some of you is like religion and it is hard to get any of you to try and or believe otherwise. I have 2 dodge diesels and a fleet of mixers and dump trucks that I maintain. Along with some old cars from the 30's. I have spent a lot of time researching to find the best oil to run in all these engines. Along with that I have had every oil salesman come to my business and get me to buy their snake oil. There are only 2 types of oil you will find me running. First choice is Admax performance lubricants from Irwin PA and the second is Amsoil. Additives are a bad idea, and almost all other oils are made with the least amount of additives and a cheaper base stock so they just barely pass performance tests. Concrete mixers are very hard on oil and I used to have oil related failures until I changed oil brand. My Admax chemist/friend said that I am good to 1. 2 million miles on my big engines before rebuild. This is just my opinion I do not want to bore you. Take it for what its worth. Respond to this if you would like more info.

I use Amsoil 15w-40 diesel/marine. Also running a FS2500 bypass filter with 39,000 mi. oil changes. Oil analysis report says oil is still good, but decided that was long enough. Used to use Rotella, excellent oil.
