Oil on transmission

Everytime I change my oil, I notice that there is engine oil all over the bottom of my transmission. I checked all of the oil pan bolts and they are tight but it looks like it's coming from where the engine and transmission meet. Anyone have any ideas?

Manual or auto? Might be fuel return leaking. Made mine look like it had oil running down (mixing with dirt) With a manual it might be the overflow. It is on top of 5 speed manual.

I don't know if the new trucks have the same crancase vent as my old one. It's a clear plastic tube that runs down the driver's side of the engine. The engine oil drips off the vent. My transmission always has engine oil on the bottom, not any great amount mind you but it will never rust! There are several products available to stop this, Genos has a catcher bottle and another is the Walker Air Sep, should be on one of the banner adds.

I have seen a couple posts where guys have thought that their rear main was leaking and it turned out to be the valve cover that was leaking. You might want to check it out.

It's more than likely from your crankcase breather hose. I extended mine about 8" with another hose slipped over the outside of the stock hose,it redirected the oil down to the road rather than the bottom of the truck. Some folks have connected a longer hose to the stock blowby and run it to the rear of the truck with good results.

AT approx 5000 miles??? I had a very loose shifter cover plate on my 6-speed. The four bolts were all backing out and were obviously never tightened. Lots of oil on the transmission and on garage floor.

I had the same problem. Illflem has it right as to the cause. I looked under my truck and almost had a heart attack when I saw all the oil down the transmission and on the bottom of the truck. was all coming from the vent. Made a small catch bottle and problem was cured. You can do a search about this and find something about a "tum's" bottle. I used a large pill bottle, it is held on the vent line with o-rings. Works ok but I think I'm going to go with a Summit catch bottle for a better looking and better working system.

One other possibility to check is the return line from the turbo.

I would start with the easy stuff first and work you way to the hardest. I would first looke at the hose (slobber tube) that Illflem was talking about. Then go from there.

blkdemon , first place to look is the blowby bottle on the timing housing cover , the fumes and such are spread by the fan , the underside of my RAM is a mess , and the fan is covered with an oily fuzz #ad
