I want to say hi to all my fellow rammers! As I done my routine 3000 mile oil change, I pulled off the turbo inlet tube as I usually do, I notice a serious amount of oil on the inside of my turbo. As I am familiar with K&N filters, I know that this is not air filter oil. It is crank case oil. Could anybody shine some light on this subject for me???

I had a black grimey goo on my turbo inlet. Didn't look like K&N filter oil, but it was.

Not sure what else it could be, there's no source of oil other than the lubrication of the turbo. No expert, but that doesn't sound likely.

I agree. I dont think it could come from anything but the your air filter. Your crankcase is atmopherically vented and the turbo's oil supply is post intake impeller.
Presuming your system is still routed in stock fashion.

guess im just a worry bug ,i did send a oil sample in today just to see if my k&n filter is doing its job. thanks for the replies

I stopped by when my dad was changing the oil on his 1998. 5 24v and there was a little oil on the silencer ring as well. Enough that you could wipe some off with a finger, but not much more. I wiggled the impeller shaft and spun the turbo vanes and that all seemed fine but what is up with the oil? He has the stock paper air filter. I checked the archives and no one has given any kind of an answer yet. Anyone... ...

This sounds like a case of over-oiling the K&N.

Bob Horrell posted a very informative piece on this very subject. Try www.turbodieselregister.com/ubb//Forum3HTML/000452.html If that doesn't work, it was a 3-14-00 post... topic: Avoiding K&N problems.

Now all of you know how frigging stupid I am with computers. (They're like dogs... . they know when you're afraid of them. ) I don't know how to make these "hot" so you just click on them to take you there **&^()(

Anyway, I'm trying to help.....
