Oil overfill by less than 1/2in on dipstick?? Dealer wants to charge for EGR Repair.

A buddy has a 2011 2500 auto 4x4 truck and just took it in. Because of a check engine lite about 7000 miles after he changed the oil... . Dealer says its the EGR and blames him for over filling the oil and wants him to pay for an oil change. . fuel filter... . EGR and one other part for a bill of $450... .



Seems like baloney that it took 7000 miles to cause an issue...



He dosent tune it or barely tow with this truck... .

7k is too many miles between changes IMHO on a non working 6. 7

Has this dealer not heard that these engines make oil? Before your friend dumps the oil, get a sample to checked. He's probably going to find fuel in the oil... With that, take it back to the dealer and have them fix the oil making problem, under warranty, since they are saying he added to much oil. . I can't speak for the ERG thing since I don't know what the real EGR issue might be, but I'll bet it's related to the oil making issue. EGR is probably working over time to reduce NOx emissions. This in turn causes more soot, which runs the regens for the DPF, which causes oil to be made... . I mean oil being diluted with fuel.

I suggested the oil sample also... i realize the 7k might be extended interval for an oil change but thats what it was.
I just dont get what the EGR has todo with oil overfill by such a small amount...

I have an 04. 5 so am un familiar with the regen cycle..... I thought the fuel in oil waa a leaky injector or such. .

Fuel in the oil is normal. That is why the oil change warning exist. 1/2 over full is no big deal
