Attention: TDR Forum Junkies 
When I got the oil pickup out, there was paint on the screen...hooray. The tube was fine, so I straightened out the pan and used a 1 piece Mahle gasket instead of the 4 piece Cummins one that became a 5 piece when it was being torqued the first time I replaced the oil pan gasket 
Here's a picture through the removed rear main housing for anyone wondering how little clearance there can be if you dent your pan! Not sure it would've been catastrophic failure, but I'll sleep better at night.
