With a 2001 H. O. 6 speed, can the oil pan be removed without pulling the transmission:confused: If so are there any special things to watch out for. Thanks in advance for any info provided. :D

Yes, the flat rate technicians pull them like that. You need to get the front high as you can, and reach in to remove the bolts on the pick up tube. It is tight but can be done. It is probably easier on a rack than on the ground.

I know this one from experience... DO NOT try to do it with the transmission in place. It is not worth the trouble... Getting it out is bad enough, but try to get it back in and you'll be hating life. Do it right and remove the transmission and engine adapter.

Good points to ponder:) I am planning on doing a clutch replacement. Since installing the ATS manifold and Rip Rooks 4 in system has pushed my torque ability up and the old stock clutch has served me will for over 100,000, I will probably do the oil pan pull at that time so I can install the magnets inside the pan. ;) Thanks for both inputs, the information is well appreciated. :D

I did it without trouble...

My oil pan gasket was leaking near the rear, on both sides. I could have taken it to the dealer, but didn't want them wrenching on everything from the prop shafts, transfer case, trans, etc.

I bought a new gasket, and after checking with the TDR, got mixed reviews much like you see here. I decided to try it anyway.

I think Evan Beck almost turned me off to the idea back then also,

and I tend to weigh what he says HEAVILY.

I ramped the truck, and went for it. REAL TIGHT clearance, but I was able to get the oil pickup tube disconnected. There was NO WAY to get the pan out with the Trans in the way. SO... I unbolted the front motor mounts and raised the FRONT of the engine.

You would be suprized how much the front of the truck raised when the engine weight is off!!! I was able to make enough clearance to get the pan down and off. Redid my gasket, sealed it with Black RTV (figured it couldn't hurt) and torqued everything up to spec. No leaks, and it saved me ALOT of time screwing with propshafts, transfer case, trans, etc. Besides, I KNOW everything I loosened was torqued to spec (unlike the dealer will do).

I have had my trans pulled loose a few times and it is a PAIN!!! I definitely didn't want to go thru the drill for a small oil leak.

It is possible, but BE SAFE. That engine is HEAVY!

:D :D :D
