Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) oil pessure gauge

The other day I started my truck and let it idle for a while when all of a sudden the check gauge light comes on and I noticed the oil pressure dropped to zero. I immediately shut the truck off and looked under the hood checked the oil looked for leaks etc. When I did not find anything wrong I turned the key on only and the oil gauge shot all the way up so I started the truck and it ran fine the gauge did not drop any more. Has anyone had this happen to them and if so what did you find out or is something going to happen to my engine. I really don't want to take it in to the dealer. Any help would really be appreciated.

Most likely it's the oil pressure sending unit. Mine went out with 38K miles on the truck.

This is a common occurrence. Next will be your fuel sending unit. I just replaced mine at 48K.

Like MCarver said... ... . probably the OP sending unit.



If you are out of warranty (or just don't want the dealer to work on your truck) Go to Cummins and replace it yourself... ... not that difficult.
