Help!!

New problem just started this week... when stopped at a traffic light in gear at idle... the oil gauge suddenly drops low into the red and the dash warning light to check gauges come on; Only done this twice now.

Both time I immediately shut off the engine and restarted a minute later and seems to solve the problem. The truck other wise acts and runs fine when driving, towing, etc. Nothing has been done other than an oil change approximately 2 weeks prior and 700 miles ago...

Any ideas??? got me stumped... . a bad sensor?

probably a dead sending unit. my friend with a 5. 0 mustang had a similar problem. after looking under the hood for 30sec or so to find the sending unit, i had him run it and i wiggled the wire on it. made the pressure go wonky. his was a bad/corroded connection. might be worth checking the connections, cleaning them up and coating with some dielectric grease

Does anyone have any experience with changing the oil sending unit? Is it a big job, or can it be done at home...

After calling the stealer, he feels it is also the sending unit...

Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Please help!!!

Went to the dealer a bought the new oil preasure sending unit... Where is it located... Iv'e has every sensor out and back in and none seem to match the one my dealer swears is the correct one... .

Does anyone know where the sensor is located... a 30 min job is now going on 3 hours...

Thanks in advance.

Oil Pressure Sending Unit

rfielding

I had the exact same thing happen to my truck about 2 months ago. It is most likely the oil pressure sending unit. The dealer quoted me $238 for a replacement, to which, I told them they were out of their minds since Cummins had them for approx. $70. They refused to cover the part on the 100k engine warranty.

The sending unit is located near the lift pump and you need a large deep socket (1 1/4" I think) to change it. If you have the socket, it takes only a couple of minutes to change the sending unit.

Good Luck,

Frank

Thanks everyone again... it was the oil pressure sending unit and again... the Steal; would not cover the part under the warranty...

Unfortunately though, I was robbed...

The deal charged me $180. 00 for the part... even called 3 different dealers... tried to get the part from the local auto part stores, but they said it was only available through the deal.

The dealer wanted to charge me $350. 00 to repair... what a bunch of crooks...

... . SO for the next time, how can I get parts direct from Cummins?

Thanks again...

oil preasure sending unit

Hello , I also had an oil preasure problem and it was the sending unit, I did the same as all the other Ram owner and check the dealers price , $170. 00 , don't think so , I did some checking at local parts outlets , what I found is a sending unit produced by a company called STANDARD , the part number ps-291 , paid less than $60. 00 for the part and a socket to remove it , save some money and check around , have a good one
