My 90's oil press light comes on at a idel with auto trans in gear. Is that normal or is this thing worn out. speedo was broke when i found it, not sure how many million miles.

First thing to do is install a proper pressure guage and test your oil pressure to see if you have an accurate reading to start with. . if not then-->>

-->You should try replacing the sender/sensor for starters... . another thing I've come across in situations like this is the basic idle setting is too low to start with... .

I have had had real good success with setting the idle at about 800-850 RPM when in "N" or "P".

With the truck in gear and the AC on MAX the idle should be roughly 750 RPM. This will help keep the oil pressure up a bit better and make for a nice smooth idle when your "loading/draw" is heavy.

In a 5spd set the headlights on high beam, AC on 'MAX'..... again your idle should be about 750 - 775 RPM.

thanks reverend I'll do that this weekend this truck also misses when full throttle in park but not when rolling down the road. A friend did an overhead for me about 6 months ago but I think I will try it again myself. (didn't really think the guy new what he was doing ) thank again Doug

Mine's a five speed, but pulling at low rpm my light came on and the oil pressure was always low by the gauge. The oil pressure switch cured it for me. On the driver's side of the block, by the power steering pump, 12 bucks or so. Who knows how much money this forum has saved me! Glen
