I just installed a dual bipass and 5w30 amsoil to my truck last night and I see a slight drop in oil pressure. Is this normal on this setup? I have not done a cold start yet to see how high the pressure goes. The oil level is good but the pressure has droped and it makes me a little nervous.

When I switched to Amsoil synthetic oil the only time I see a drop in oil pressure is at idle and that is intermittent. The truck did it with regular oil as well. With the additional filters and lines a drop in pressure is not unusual. How much of a drop are you seeing?

It does not go as high when the engine is cold but that is expected. At idle or running down the road it used to be right at 40psi once warm now it runs 5ish psi lower. I am just guessing because the gauge is not specific. I never saw a drop on dino oil so any drop has me a little freaked. It was definitely quieter when very cold. I cranked it over after sitting all night and today in the shade and I did not let the grid work. It sounded like it was warm.

A slight (~5psi) drop is normal from all the Amsoil bypass filters I've seen. The service manual says as long as you have over 10psi at idle and 30psi at 2000rpm you are alright. Good rule of thumb, but if you see a drop of more than 10psi I would start to worry.

Keep in mind that a change from a regiular petro oil to an oil like Amsoil, you might see a drop in pressure. Oil pressure is the resistance to flow thru the bearing journals. Free flowing oil and oil with less resistance to flow will reduce oil pressure readings. This is a good thing. For instance, race engines are generally built loose so the oil flows fast for cooling, but generally has very low oil pressure.

Thanks guys that is what I wanted to here. Just needed to hear it.

Ted, when I changed to Amsoil 15W-40 HDD&M (using the OE full flow filter), it was NO DIFFERENT than when I had used any of the other 15W-40s I had previously tried (i. e. , V/C PB Blue, Red Line synthetic, or V/C PB Blue 2000). The oil pressure remained the same.

At the last oil change interval I decided to change to the Amsoil Series 5W-30 HDD synthetic, adding the Amsoil Dual Remote Bypass system at the same time. It was then I noticed an across-the-board oil pressure drop. This is typical when adding the Amsoil Dual Remote Bypass sytem, NOT a side effect of switching to the lighter oil.

I (just) had a sample analyzed at just under 8k mi. by Blackstone and received the best report back yet... by a substantial margin!

I installed the BMK-15 kit last week and i too, noticed an Oil pressure drop. I am still using Rotella 15W-40. The one thing i noticed about the Dual bypass kit, and its a good thing, is the extra cooling your engine gets. Between the block adaptor, the billet filter mount, and the 2 filters (Plus stainless braided lines in my case), that is ALOT of cooling area for the oil to get rid of heat. That is worth it alone. The one thing i did not like was the fullflow filter Amsoil supplies for the BMK-15 kit has inlet and outlet holes much smaller then the Fleetguard and Mopar filters. I called them and asked them if it flows less and they said "No" (What did i expect, they were going to tell me there filter was not as good?). That is my only complaint with the system.
