On the way home from work today the factory oil pressure gauge dropped to 0 and then began bouncing around from almost pegged to near 0. I read through the posts on the two most likely candidates - the sensor and the regulator - so I suspect I'll be replacing at least one of those.

When I got home, I hooked up a mechanical gauge to the port on top of the filter housing. Pressure was steady at 65 at idle, and would run up to 90 or so around 2000 RPMs.

My question is - does the regulator control pressure out of that port? If so, should the pressure be reaching that high?

For something to compare to. .

Mine goes as high as 85-90 when cold, runs about 60-65 at freeway cruise speed, and on very hot days (over 105 degrees outside, after pulling heavy), will idle down to as low as 21.

Idle pressure, before getting up to operating temps would be around 50-60.

I have an Isspro pressure gauge tapped off the filter port (1st gauge quit, now on 2nd gauge - they both read the same).
