Whilst stuck in bumper to bumper traffic tonight (I hate California), I noticed my idiot light (oil) coming on when I slowed down for traffic. Then I noticed that every time I slowed to a stop while in drive, the oil pressure would drop to zero. Had to drive the rest of the way home with two feet (in an auto!!!) to keep the idle and oil pressure up.

Idles at about 750 in park, 600-650 in drive. Idle has been at this rpm for two years, and I've never had an oil pressure problem.

Is this just low idle, or another problem? And why all of the sudden?

TIA,

Conrad

Conrad, most likely your pressure sending unit. I had the same situation with a gasser and a new sending unit corrected the issue.

I'm about to replace my sending unit for the 2nd time. Plenty of oil on the dip stick.

Seems to happen frequently on my deisel when I let off the throttle and am coasting or descending a hill.

The warning bell goes off, but almost immediately hte gauge goes back up.

Thanks guys, problem solved. $65 at the stealer and $23 at the local parts house. Gee, I sure hate to cheat the dealer out of $42:rolleyes:   :-laf :-laf

Where did you get your new sending unit? Part number? Did it take a special wrench or socket?

Seems like I read in a previous post it took a special socket.

I'd like to save the cash myself. Thanks Bryan:)
