I was driving home from work this evening, and my check gauges light came on, much to my dismay, I was surprised that I had no oil pressure, pulled over and shut her down. Checked the oil, and everything was ok on the dipstick. I re-started and the pressure came back up, drove another mile or so and it went to no pressure again, then came up, and down an so on... ... ..... Has anyone had this happen, or heard of this problem. Thanks in advance.

PSWondering if Its OK to drive:confused:

There is a TSB on oil pressure senting units and ECM programming. Check out the new TSB section. It is in the engine catagory # 09-001-01. check it out.

Be warned, you probably have a bad sender. The dealer must do a reflash BEFORE they are allowed by DC to troubleshoot the system. The TSB will reprogram the PCM to ignor an out-of-range input from the oil pessure sender and cause the PCM to put 40 PSI on the gauge. Final result: you have a worthless gauge on your dash because it will put 40PSI even if the sender indicates 0VDC ( 0 PSI ). They did the reflash to mine and i went back because the gauge would never move off of 40PSI. Finally STAR authorized them to replace my sender ($140) and now it works, but because of the reflash it will indicate 40PSI even if I lose the drain plug. It may not be worth trying to avoid the update because it probably comes packaged with other updates, but atleast if your gauge stays on 40PSI your sender is bad even if the chime shuts up.

You said it. I too had the reflash done and then the sensor. jgordon just have the sensor replaced and you'll be ok.

Don't check it out!

I had that miserable TSB done and it dumbs down the oil press guage. Now it always reads pretty much the same. The reflash tells the guage to always show a decent reading, regardless of pressure. Try replacing the sending unit yourself and see how it is. Do not let them do the reflash! Ford started doing this a few years ago and now Dodge!

#@$%! #@$%! #@$%!

What happens if i don't do anything, I'm very reluctant to take it in to the Stealer even though it is under warranty, they scare me to death, all the stories i've heard. That's why i own cummins in the 1st place, to stay clear of the stealer's. Thanks for all the input:confused: Joey G.

I've read that Cummins sells the sender for around $50, replace it yourself and that will probably fix it. Please post your results in this thread.

I had the infamous flash done and 40# it is except when you shut it off for 45 minutes and come back and turn the ignition on and it reads 80# without the engine running!!!!

Change the sensor and ignore the flash!
