Hello, my dad has a 1990, with 130,000 some miles and we have noticed that the gauge does not show much psi. and the light comes on and flickers when comeing to a stop. have any of you experienced the same thing. just today we hooked up a gauge to the port on top of the oil filter and got about 50 psi at idle and 60 or so at 2000-+ rpm. . but that was cold... but should not be much if any less hot. So... I am quite certain everything is ok exept for the gauge. Anyone had a gauge go bad or is this an isolated case?

Jim, have not had this problem. It's probably just the oil pressure sending unit or a dirty connector.
The sending unit is located on the drivers side of engine, even with the end of the injection pump but a little lower down on the engine.

Jim, I had the same problem with my gague. Whenever I idled at a traffic light, the light would come on. Everything was fine with the truck... the gague was just a little messed up, but easily fixed. I took it by the local mechanic and took him about 10 minutes to fix so it must of not been to difficult.

Jim, My oil guage has shown low or gone down when I give it more rpm. I was told it is a bad connection. I need to clean it. I did get concerned when my light started to flicker at idle. I went back to the heavy weight Amsoil and it stop flashing light. It is probably just the sending unit.

I don't know whats with Dodge and oil pressure sending units, but I have quite a few Chrysler products with problematic oil pressure gauges. On all of my heavy abuse trucks I always add a Stewart Warner Mechanical oil pressure gauge in line with the OEM sending unit. I run a minium 35 psi at a idle/full engine temp & 65-70psi at 1500 rpm. Cold it goes right off the gauge past 80psi. I run Shell 15w-40w oil but have been thinking using non dino oil, IF someone can prove its better #ad

My oil pressure gauge also thinks it is a tach and the oil pressure light thinks it is an idle indicator - I'm pretty sure this is part of the reason the previous owner sold it so cheap.
