Oil Pressure Sender died...New Twist on old story

My oil pressure sender died today on the way to work. Does anyone have the cummins part number handy for that sensor on an 2001 truck?? I tired to find it on Fritz's site, but the page with all the part numbers is no where to be found.

Thanks in advance.

So off to Cummins I went to get a new sender. The parts guy looks up the number and says to me "nope, discontinued". I give him my engine SN and he looks up the sender again, up comes the same part number. He looks up some more stuff and says to me "You are not going to like this". He procededs to tell me that cummins has had so many problems with the sender that they don't use it any more. The new replacment is the same sensor that a ford uses. It requires a reflash of the ECM to make it work. Its basically a idiot light set up, new sensor was $9 and the harness you need is $11. I bought the stuff and I am going to talk to the diesel mechanic at my local dealer and see what is up. I really don't want an idiot light set up, but I would like the "check gauges" light to go out.

Any one know if the oill press sender is under the emission warranty or the 100K engine warranty??

John. . don't you have SPA's now ?? so add another. . :)

add maybe a Oil/Water temp so at least you have the basics covered and have 100% back up over dash

Hey Bob - did a search, no such user, at least with that spelling.

Any one out there have an extra oil press sender laying around??

Back to the top, any one have a spare oil press sender for an 01. I guess I am off to the dealer to get the crappy fix done if not.

Just wanted to let you all know that Pmadrid gave me a different part number than what is listed for our trucks and it works great.

The part number is #4088390NX at Cummins. My sensor was $78 with a $32 core charge, but down South it should be more like $60 with a $30 core charge.

I I have a 99. My oil pressure sender went out a couple of years ago. The dodge dealer list was $180. 00. this was before i knew to go direct to Cummins. Fortunately my daughter had connections to dodge parts, but it was still $120.

Ok, first of all let me say thanks to all who added information to this thread. It's a good feeling to find out you are not going to need a new engine :)

Anyway the part number at Cummins has been superseded again.

Cummins # 4921511 68. 00 w/ no core charge

Mopar #???????? 221. 00

I want to be sure... the Cummins #4921511 is a 'sender' and not a 'switch' correct? My 98. 5 with 130,000+ miles started having the zero oil pressure reading with 'check gauges' warning light yesterday morning on the way to work. I haven't checked the connections or wires yet for a problem.

To my knowledge it is a sender although maybe not much better than an idiot light.

You can install a mechanical gauge at the port on top of the oil filter base to make sure you have pressure.

Reason I put in a seperate non dc op gauge.

GOTTA have op, GOTTA have a non dc gauge (with real numbers on it) backup.

Did the Cummins part #4921511 fix the problem, I have a 99 with 124,000 and the oil sending unit quit. I was going to have Mid-state Cumming fix it with there new switch but they wanted to charge me $200. to flash the ECM.
