1998 2500 ram 4X4 CTB,

I would like to manufacture a Tee fitting to share the oil pressure sender mount on the lower left hand side of the engine with the sender for an electric oil pressure guage.

NPT threads are the order of the day, but is there a specific type of brass, stainless etc. fitting to use?

I have concerns about introducing a weakness into the system and want to do this properly for obvious reasons.

Thoughts, inspirations anyone?

PS Already used the plug on the top of the oil filter housing for oil temp so that spot is out of the running.

I know for sure the threads on a 24V block are metric, M14-1. 50 to be exact. Good luck finding an o-ring tee for that... Plus, the area below the ECM is pretty cramped to begin with, so adding another sending unit may be kind of a chore.

There are other plugs on that side of the block that you could use for your aftermarket sender, but you'll need to come up with an adapter to go from M14-1. 50 to 1/8" NPT.

BTW, why do you need another oil pressure gauge, anyways?

Evan is right about there being other ports to the same oil gallery. You can get an adapter from Napa, I went there and got the proper fitting when I was running a mechanical gauge for awhile. I quit using it though 'cause I found the stock gauge to be pretty accurate and wasn't too concerned with having an oil pressure problem with my engine (quite unlikely).

I just remembered that the 98 24V oil pressure gauge goes 0-60-150... On our trucks, Vaughn, it is far more accurate with the 0-40-110 markings.

Onother location to consider tapping is in the top of the filter housing, I think it is 1/4 or 1/8 NPT

cheers, Kevin

Kevin's all over it. Top of the oil filter housing is a 1/8" npt plug. I have mine "T", one port is for the frantz filter, the other for a oil temp. gauge. I did have one of the small 1 1/4" liquid filled pressure gauges mounted on the Frantz filter, the psi's seemed fairly consistant with what I observed on the OEM OP gauge.

Oopsss, just re-read your original post. The "T" will work in that location, though I had to add a 1/8" male/female spacer, drilling out same, to set the temp. probe back far enough to tighten it down. Used a 1" nipple at the bottom of the "T" to adapt the fitting to the top of the filter housing and anti-seize on the threads.

If you go this route, becareful on the nipple tightness into the filter housing. I snapped the first one off at the threads   when I went a bit too far. The anit-seize made it's removal with a easy out no problem.

I thought about the filter housing, but elected to go with tapping into the gallery plug near the ECM so it was less distance to run the hose and it was on the correct side to run into the cab. Plus I wanted to see what the pressure was downstream a ways instead of closer to the output of the oil pump.

One problem with the OEM gauge on the dashboard even though it says 0-150psi the sender unit they use is only capable of 0-100psi. I have yet to figure out why they mark the guage way beyond where the sending unit for it can read.
