Directions for Cakewalk
BFC, I'm not sure where your location is, but on the 2001, it is located just below and aft of the ECM. This location puts it down low between the fuel filter and lift pump.
My secret is to lay on top of the engine. Then I can reach through all of the lines just aft of the intake horn. I put the socket on the sender by feel, then attached the ratchet. Since the sender uses an o-ring seal, just a few turns get it finger tight. Disconnect the ratchet, and turn the socket by hand.
Start the new sender by hand, then use the socket only, then the ratchet... .
OH, and wear a long sleaved jacket!
I did mine last week during the 23F days we had here... . Outside!! I let the engine cool for 20min then went to work... . the engine kept me warm, and the rest wasn't too hot to touch!
I replaced the lift pump, Inlet Air temp sensor, and oil pressure sender (all for the first time) in under an hour... .
The temperature gave me a good incentive!
