 I have an oil pressure sensor that went bad, and decided to get a replacement from the local Cummins Shop. It appears they came out with a new part number for this sensor. 4088390 Does anybody have any info on the improvements or why the part changed? I hope this is "improved", I suspect that engine vibration may be what causes the earlier units to fail????

I just had this same problem. My closest Cummins dealer is in Cheyenne and they need my engine serial number before we can even talk about the sensor that they will need to order. Can someone help me out?

Is there a Cummins dealer in Ft. Collins or Denver area that stocks items for our 6 cyl? With my Signature below, will the part number specified work?

thanks!

No problems whatsoever.

I've been having the intermittent no oil pressure problem for the past 6 months and I finally decided to swap the switch for a new unit. I went to Cummins and bought the above part number for my 01 ETH/DEE. Guess what?? It has a different electrical connection!! I couldn't figure out why I couldn't plug it in so I put the two side by side and there were definite differences. Anyone else have this problem? I called Cummins with the part number on the switch I removed and it was a non-stock item with availablilty 3 states away. Guess I'll need to order it, but I wondered if anyone else had this trouble too.

I had to provide my engine serial number also, before they (Cummins) could look up my oil pressure sensor part number. Facing the engine from front of truck, it will be on your right side of the engine. There is a sticker near the front of the engine, may need a flashlight to see down in there where it is.

My electrical connections were the same. It required a 1 1/4 inch deepwell socket to remove the sensor. I ended up jacking up the front left side of the truck and removing the tire/wheel to get in under the fender well. It's a tight fit to get one's arm through the fender material into the engine area, but it was a straight through there. Needed a few 1/2 inch drive extensions coupled together to reach the thing. It is not very tight, I believe the spec is 144 inch pounds, if I am correct that would translate to 12 foot pounds of torque when tightening the new one. The book says to disconnect both battery Neg leads prior. When I reconnected my battery's, my alarm system went off

So I had to deal with that, and a simple button push on remote wouldnt fix it. :--)

After all this, the new one seems to work ok.

See my post on 24 V Oil Pressure Sending Unit. The part I got was the same as the Toolman's - 3408428. My '99 has 4 wheel ABS and all the associated "hardware" in the way on the drivers side but install took me less than 5 minutes from above. Just reach down under the fuel filter canister, unhook the wire, unscrew the unit (1 1/4" deep well, wobbly, 6" extension and 1/2" drive) and install the new one to 12 ft-lbs. Simple job on the '99.
