Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Oil pressure

Oil pressure dropped to zero this morning. After nearly having a heart attack, I pulled off and checked for pressure at filter. Everything O. K. -must be sending unit. So, I thought. Got into the truck just now to run down to Cummins Southern Plains to get a new one-now it is working fine. Any ideas? An oil pressure guage that only reads sometimes (or doesn't read sometimes) doesn't make me feel warm & fuzzy inside.

Nevermind. Went to lunch and it worked for about two miles then dropped like a rock straight to zero so either the sending unit is bad or the oil pan fell off. On my way to CSP for a new sending unit now... .....

Have heard this is a pretty common problem - same thing happened to my 99 at about 50k. Sure gets your attention, doesn't it?
