Oil Pressure?

Why does my brand new 2005 have 45 of so lbs of oil pressure, While my 1990 and 1993 1st gens with untold miles on them have 60 lbs at operating temp and rpm?

You can search the forums on this and you will see others with concerns also. It appears that if you tap off and put a direct pressure gauge on your engine it will read in the 60's. the sender does not read right ,you are not alone in this.

Ditto on what was said above by viper700. We got a friend a 60 psi gauge for his oil pressure thinking it would be sufficient. Needless to say when we fired it up cold it pegged the gauge and runs almost 10-15 psi higher than the factory gauge when warm.

Once the computer sees 8 psi from the oil sender it figures what oil pressure should be acoording to temp, etc. So its not actual oil pressure on the gauge.

the "sender" is a 6psi switch... so what you see on the dash is a glorified idoit light. . above 6 psi, it moves, below 6psi, it reads 0psi

Any info on why it's set up this way? Is there some advantage to having the ECM calculate the oil pressure?

I believe its set up this way to stop the fluctuation of the gauge. Another factor, this sender is cheaper than the 200. 00 oil pressure sensor in the 24v. And yes its a glorified idiot light.
