I just bought a 98 24v and I have a question about the oil pressure. When I first crank it up, it takes a few seconds before the guage reads anything. Normally around 5-6 seconds, sometimes it's long enough that the check gauges light will turn on for a moment.

Now does this seem normal?

try changing the oil & filter , and in my opion do not use anything lighter than a 15-40 ?? , if that dosent get you to about a 2-3 secound delay then change the sensor, start at the cheep stuff first , if those do not help then you end up going into the eng. and clean the oil pump and maybe replace the either the pump or just the spring and valve in the pump , sometimes the spring has a problum or something with the cylinder and piston [ I using different terms here for valve & spring]scoring in cylinder , what about after warm up how much does pressure drop ? worst case could be too much wear in bearings.

I believe the oil pressure sensor feeds to the computer, then info fed to the dash guage - the delay probably is just the time lag it takes to get "from here to there"...

You'd sorta think that in this day of mult-ghz computer chips, that DC and other makers would toss out their old 8088 chips and join the current century!

The oil in it is Rotella 15w-40 with a Wix filter. Just over 3000 miles on it. After I get oil pressure, it goes to 60psi and that's what it says at until I'm past 2000 rpm or so where it will go up to around 80psi.

Engine doesn't clatter or anything when the guage reads 0, so I want to think it's just a slow guage... I hope.

Check it with a known good gauge , but its still sounding like a sticky valve in the oil pump , the pressures are a little on the high side .

Mine has never gotten to the point of flickering the check gauges light but has had a long delay since I bought it new. 100,000 miles on it and it still acts the same.
