This morning on the way to work my oil pressure gauge started acting erratic. At idle it is good, but under power and especially acceleration it drops, almost to 0. Oil level is ok and I am guessing it is the sending unit. My Service Manual says I need a special tool C-4597 to remove it.

Any suggestions???

The oil pressure sensor is a common part, about 25 bucks at Carquest or Napa, Lisle sells the special socket that you MUST have to do the job. The tool was 8 bucks when I got it...

easy fix, right under the IP.

The NAPA store has the oil pressure switch, Echlin brand OP6670 and the K-D tool number is K-D 3458. This will fit your 96. I have first hand experience with this one.

Thanks for the replies. I called NAPA and Cummins NW and both said "call Dodge", so I did. $39. 71 + tax. I will check with NAPA tomorrow for the tool.

I am "assuming" my problem is the sender. Oil pressure reads normal at idle and under light power, but falls off under acceleration, sometimes all the way to "0". Oil level is at the normal level for the miles I have on this change.
