Oil pressure

I have a 2001 truck with about 4,500 miles. All has been well with it except for a pull to the right that was determined to require adjustable ball joints to correct a camber problem. Parts not yet received.



My question: What are you seeing for oil pressures at idle, hot versus cold? I think this thing surprises me with the visible drop that occurs when it gets hot. I don't think My V10 had that marked a drop in oil pressure between being at speed and at idle, even when hot.



Have any of you noticed this about your pressure readings? And, yes, it is full as per the dip stick.

About 30lbs at idle after warmed up and about 45 to 50 going down the highway. Hope that helps.

there was a thread recently which gave the flow from the ctd pump. 16 gpm is my memory. i think even if the pressure drops at idle, it should be oiling. not sure what the right number should be. the cummins manual with my C8. 3 gives the minimum pressure acceptable at idle with it, but haven't seen that figure for the isb, that i can recall.

I think oil type and weight will affect the readings substantially. Using Rotella 15-40 I see 45 at idle cold and 35 hot. At 2000 RPM going down the road I see about 60-65 hot or cold. I think with the synthetics the readings will be lower across the board. Hope this helps.



Edit: There have been quite a few guys that have had dipsticks that were not accurate. Next time you change the oil add 11 quarts exactly, run it for a while and check the accuracy of your dipstick. If it is off make a mark where the oil level is.
