I'm wondering if it is normal on a cold morning for the oil pressure to not register on the gauge for 5-7 seconds after start up.

Is there something wrong?

Depending on how cold it is and what weight oil you are using it can do that easily. I lived in Duluth Minnesota for 3 years and when it got real cold 5w wouldn't run!

wowzy lets move this over to general diesel and let everyone have a got at it.

My truck takes a few seconds to register oil pressure wether it's cold or not. Talked to cummins, and they said that was normal. As long as your oil pressure does not go back to 0 after it registers.

Even down in Dripping Springs, temp. dropped into the mid 20's. I had it pluged-in all night at it took right at 5 sec. to build up pressure. So it sounds like what you have is normal...

Jamie,

Even here in Tucson (we've had some 30 degree mornings lately) my oil pressure takes 3-5 seconds to register. I'm still running the thin factory oil at 2K miles.

22k miles on mine and it doesn't register oil pressure for about 5-7 seconds whether it is 0* or 90* outside. i was told that this was normal as well.
